BACKGROUND

WHO Vanuatu Office in close support of the Nutrition Unit of the Regional Office for the Western Pacific and the Pacific Noncommunicable Diseases (PNH) and Health through the Life Course provides technical support to Vanuatu for Nutrition and related issues. The Vanuatu Government implemented the National Nutrition Policy and Strategic Plan 2016-2020 and currently undergoing review of the implementation of this Policy for the last 5 years. Strengthen nutrition governance and coordination across multiple sectors through partnerships and collaborations to effectively deliver nutrition interventions, improve delivery and coverage of quality nutrition services, strengthen interventions targeting the prevention and control of overweight and obesity to reduce the risk of noncommunicable diseases, strengthen interventions to prevent, control and treat undernutrition, including stunting, wasting and underweight, prevent and control iron deficiency anaemia, iodine deficiencies and other micronutrient deficiencies among vulnerable populations, promote and sustain national and household food security, and improve, promote and sustain a nutrition surveillance and monitoring system.   

 

PURPOSE/SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE OF THE ACTIVITY

The purpose of this activity is to engage an experienced nutrition policy consultant, able to begin working immediately with Nutrition working group in Vanuatu and developing the Vanuatu Nutrition Policy for 2022-2030. The aim is that the consultant should be facilitating key stakeholders and writing Vanuatu Nutrition Policy in the context of the National Sustainable Development Plan 2016-2030, Gudfala Kakae Policy and Health Sector Strategy 2021-2030, in order to provide nutrition services and products which are most appropriate to the Vanuatu context.

At the end of the contract, consultant will be able deliver a draft Nutrition Policy 2022-2030.

 

DESCRIPTION OF ACTIVITIES TO BE CARRIED OUT

Output 1: In collaboration with the MoH to work with stakeholders on the review from stakeholders meeting organized in November 2021.

Deliverable 1.1: A draft outline of the new Nutrition policy based on the review of the previous Nutrition Policy 2016-2020

Output 2: In collaboration with the MoH and Nutrition working group to develop Vanuatu Nutrition Policy 2022-2030

Deliverable 1.1: To develop a draft Vanuatu Nutrition Policy 2022-2030

Deliverable 1.2: To co-facilitate a consensus meeting with stakeholders on a draft Policy

Deliverable 1.3: To submit final draft Vanuatu Nutrition Policy 2022-2030

 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Education (for companies; of the team leader):         

A degree in public health, health or social science, nutrition, or a related field

Experience:

  • Essential
  • -Prior experience with nutrition and food policy systems in Vanuatu
  • -Based in Oceania region (for time zone purposes)
  • -Experience working with or for WHO
  • Desirable
  • -Experience with nutrition programmes

Language requirements:

Fluent in written English

Contract duration

3.5 months (starting November 2021)

Place of assignment

Remote work. No travel is anticipated nor recommended.
