OBJECTIVE

The objectives are to enhance distribution capacity and to increase the number of rural and urban electricity consumers in Bangladesh.

DESCRIPTION

The project is comprised of two components:

Component One: Provision of about 2.5 million service connections to rural consumers.

Component Two: Upgrading two grid substations and the conversion of 85 km overhead distribution lines into underground cables in north Dhaka.

The Project is classified in Category B under the Environmental and Social Policy of the Bank, and the provisions of Environmental and Social Standard 1: Environmental and Social Assessment and Management have been applied to both Component 1 and Component 2.
