The BBC works closely with its partners to ensure our audience are given the highest quality experience possible when using our iPlayer and Sounds products and consuming BBC content. To ensure this experience meets the high standards now and in the future of what is expected, device manufacturers are obliged to adhere to a detailed technical certification process managed in conjunction by the BBC. This process is managed today via an online web application which allows partners to provide information on new devices which require certification, submit automated tests results and submit booking requests for device certification test slot with the internal engineering team at the BBC (booking is key as physical devices are sent to BBC premises for final certification testing and the BBC has a finite test capacity). The existing legacy platform has deep bespoke integrations into both Salesforce (device management and booking) and Atlassian Jira (issue tracking and reporting). Due to the complexity of these bespoke integrations we are experiencing an increasing technical overhead managing and maintaining the system and are keen to move to a more maintainable solution. As such we are exploring options to replace the existing system with a new application which retains Jira integration to serve our needs better today and provide a platform for future enhancements to the process.
