Description
BACKGROUND
The WHO Western Pacific Regional Office (WPRO) vision “For the Future” was endorsed by the WPR Regional Committee Meeting (RCM) in October 2019 after a period of joint work between WPRO and Member States to identify the priorities and develop the vision. To move the vision forward, WPRO had to reorient its ways of working, primarily through operational shifts - designed to strengthen WHO’s support to Member States -led by DSI.
At the next Regional Committee Meeting (RCM) more than two years will have passed since the vision began to take shape, and two years since it was endorsed. In addition, the COVID-19 changed WHO and member states’ priorities, and the future landscape of health and society. The Task Force was formed to timely to review progress, identify lessons, and re-test and recast the relevance of the vision to guide Member States and WHO in the coming years
PURPOSE/SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE OF THE ACTIVITY
The Data, Strategy, and Innovation (DSI) group seeks to engage a consultant to support the “Advancing for the Future” which backgrounds implementing the WPR Vision “Towards the Healthiest and Safest Region” by providing analysis and report writing to enhance the narrative
DESCRIPTION OF ACTIVITIES TO BE CARRIED OUT
The primary objective is to document the WHO/WPRO and Member State’s progress in achieving our vision: acting today to address the challenges of tomorrow. It also identifies challenges and lessons, and shows strategic direction for the next few years, in a landscape that has been deeply shaken by the COVID19 pandemic.
This would be also an opportunity for WHO/WPRO Staff to reflect on our past activities and reconfirm/reshape our vision and define each one’s contributions to taking the vision forward
METHOD(S) TO CARRY OUT THE ACTIVITY
Output/s
Output 1: Comprehensive Notetaking during the RCM where “Advancing for the Future” is an agenda item
Deliverable: 1.1: Clear and comprehensive notes from the Regional Committee Meeting (RCM) session to update the “Advancing for the Future” narrative. This require fast and accurate tying, accurate spelling and the ability to extract all relevant information from the meeting and different sessions; and
Deliverable 1.2: submit the consolidated session summary for task force review
Output 2: Update the draft and submit final document of the “Advancing for the Future”
Deliverable 2.1: Edit and update narrative per technical review and incorporating feedback from Member States during RCM and other senior management
Deliverable 2.2: edit and update figures, graphics and other picto informations
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Education
A university degree in Community Health and Prevention Research, biology or any related fields.
Experience
Minimum 2 years of work experience in public / community health or scientific research or science communication and writing.
Skills
- • Strong academic background
- • Extensive skills in scientific writing and communication
- • Persistence in follow up, tact and diplomacy to work with international personnel
- • Knowledge of the WPRO For the Future vision paper
Language
English (Read - Write - Speak / Expert)

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
WHO will review all the proposals and take the best proposal, based on the prevailing industry rates. The contractual partner can work remotely
Duration of Contract:
2 months starting 2 November 2021
Medical clearance:
The selected Consultant will be expected to provide a medical certificate of fitness for work.
Place of assignment:
Virtual. If the travel restriction allows, she/he should travel to WPRO for 3-4 weeks to help finalize the report.
