Overview :

Several UN agencies are housed at the UN House in Cape Point The Gambia. The compound has 2 structures that are currently in use by the various organisations. Over the years, the UN activities in The Gambia have grown considerably and this has led to significant increase in staff and activities in the various offices resulting in additional demand for services such as water, electricity, office portioning etc.

With respect to electricity, this has meant additional connections and sockets had to be installed. It is against this backdrop that the UN deemed it necessary to carry out the assessment of different aspects of the building and as well as rehabilitation of the existing electrical network. In April 2021, the UN engaged services of an electrical firm to assess the status of the electrical installation in the UN House. The overall finding suggested that the electrical services in the UN House, is poor and partially unsafe. The test data generated revealed that part of the electrical distribution in the main office building was not earthed, the availability of the standby generator capacity was down to 50 per cent, given that two out of three generators are already faulty. Further findings reveal that the main electrical distribution is unsafe and required total rehabilitation. To address these shortcomings, the Landlord has engaged an Electrical Company to perform the rehabilitations works. To that end, UNDP is looking for the services of an individual consultant to oversee, supervise and conduct testing and commissioning following the remedial works. The report on the findings and the detailed Bill of quantities (BOQ) will be shared with the successful consultant.

Description of the assignment

UNDP is looking for a qualified and experienced electrical engineer to supervise, provide the on-site coordination and quality assurance on the electrical installation works to be undertaken in the UN Building. The Expert will work closely with the Electrical Company engaged by the Landlord, the UNDP Common Services Associate and report to the UNDP Deputy Resident Representative.
