At the river mussel cultivation facility in Austevoll, small mussels are bred from endangered localities with river mussels. Up to 5 stocks are collected annually. When the small mussels are 1 year old, genetic analyses of up to 200 of these per population must be performed. The objective of the analyses is to check the genetic variation of the mussels compared to the parent mussels (n = 60). The University of Bergen prepares and forwards the analysis material to the laboratory. The results shall be summarized in a report showing the status of the mussels' genetics divided in accordance with the given criteria as well as a textual assessment. The analysis material will be prepared by UiB in April and the report shall be forwarded by the end of November each year.
