Description
The UN Library in Geneva has recently launched the "Total Digital Access to the League of Nations Archives" (LONTAD) project, under the direction of the Institutional Memory Section (IMS). Through this project, the entire content of the League of Nations (LoN) Archives, approximately 15 M pages of materials, will be digitized. Taking into consideration the enormous effort and economical investment that this project represents, the UN Library cannot take the risk of the loss or damage of these digital archives. As part of the project, it has been planned to implement a Digital Preservation system which will ensure the long-term preservation of and access to the digital versions of the LoN Archives.
To this regard therefore, the Procurement and Contracts Unit on behalf of the UNOG Library is seeking for competent organisations /associations that provide a platform of collaboration and best practices in the aerea of digital preservation of archives.
The successful organisation / association would provide professional services such as dedicated support to digital preservation, providing expert advice on digital preservation, provide access to their publications, access to hosted meetings and conferences on digital preservation, access to relevant /special projects and initiatives among other emerging issues on digital preservation of archives.
The successful organisation /association would also provide other services that would include but not limited to community engagement, advocacy, workforce development, capacity building, management and governace including best pratices and standards for making digital preservation achievable and other supporting efforts to ensure services are tightly matched to shifting requirements of digital preservation.
