Overview :
The Government of Uganda through the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) has been implementing the “Mainstreaming Sustainable Land Management in the Uganda six cattle Corridor Districts” project, funded by the Government of Norway through United Nations Development Programme/ Drylands Development Centre (UNDP/DDC). The project implemented in the districts of Sembabule, Nakaseke, Nakasongola, Kaliro, Kamuli and Lyantonde. The long term objective of the project is to contribute to sustainable land management and enhance the livelihoods of local communities in the dry lands of Uganda. The project aimed at mainstreaming SLM into district and Sub-county development plans, support implementation of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification/National Action Plan (UNCCD/NAP) and priority SLM interventions to improve livelihoods of local communities in the cattle corridor of Uganda. At the national level, a Strategic Investment Framework for Sustainable Land management (USIF-SLM) and the rangelands policy were developed.
