Work Description:

Fisheries and Oceans Canada has a requirement for a Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) Crew Residence Construction and Float Services for the Search and Rescue (SAR) station located in Harley Bay, BC.

Hartley Bay is a remote First Nations village on the west coast of British Columbia. The village is not accessible by road. There is a monthly barge service from Prince Rupert run by Wainright Marine. These services are weather dependent. The closest communities that are accessible by road are Prince Rupert and Kitimat.

The Contractor will be responsible for:
1- Providing accommodation, cooking facilities and provisions for their own staff and subtrades. Some accommodation may be available in the Village of Hartley Bay - please contact Roger Sterritt(contact information listed above) for availability. Accommodations may be located on a barge moored in the bay.
2- Transport of all building materials to site, and removal of all construction wastes from the Village when the project is complete.

The Work is comprised of:
1- The Construction of a new SAR Crew Residence Building. The crew residence is a 3 floor wood frame structure on a concrete foundation. Access to the site of the residence is by way of a wooden boardwalk structure that is rated for a maximum load of 2,268 Kg (5,000 lbs). All construction equipment must be transported to the site along this boardwalk. This includes excavation and material handling equipment, construction materials, aggregate and concrete. Pumped materials may be transported overland.
2- The provision of services to the new SAR station located on a concrete float moored in the harbour. Float services to be provided consist of water, sanitary, power and communications. A wood frame shelter on the existing ramp is to be demolished and reconstructed.
