Description
The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) invites qualified interested firms to submit Expression of Interest (EOI) to participate in the upcoming tender exercise for refurbishment and fit-out of the existing DP Block (Printing building) within the United Nations Office Nairobi, as part of the Early Works Component of the “Replacement of Office Blocks A-J” Project. The current DP Block (Printing building)) was built between 1983 and 1985 as part of the first expansion of the UNON Gigiri complex. It is approximately 2,500 m2 and includes office space for the Publishing Services team, production floor space for printing and production equipment and large warehouse and storage facilities for printing materials. The United Nations Office at Nairobi intends to repurpose the publishing services building to better accommodate a digitally upgraded publishing facility, which would require a much smaller footprint. About half of the building will therefore be repurposed and converted to other service uses, namely the new Data Centre and specialised Security functions; the residual area will be converted as additional office space. Given the design features of the existing publishing building, with a double-height ceiling, a lightweight steel-structured mezzanine will be constructed to further expand the available office space. The scope of works shall include: i) Demolition works comprising masonry, joinery and electrical components. ii) Waterproofing works on roof and concrete slabs. iii) Investigation, identification, management and disposal of asbestos. iv) Cleaning and application of new finishes to external building surfaces. v) Reconfiguration and expansion of existing washrooms. vi) New plumbing and enhanced drainage works of the reconfigured washrooms. vii) New firefighting installations specifically appropriate to the new data centre and UPS room. viii) Security system and Access Control points Installations - cabling only. ix) Site wide ICT reticulation and Campus optical fibre connections from DP server room to other Office Blocks in the compound. x) Electrical installation works. xi) Mechanical Installations: comprising plumbing and drainage and air conditioning works. xii) Renovation and extension of the existing plant room including installation of anew generators. xiii) Construction of New Tier 3 Data Centre with 36 no. racks with power, cooling and auxiliary services. xiv) Construction of Specialist Security Spaces. xv) Finishes works. xvi) Associated external works. Additional details, specifications and terms of reference for this requirement shall be provided in the tender document that will be issued subsequent to this EOI.
