BACKGROUND
The WHO Western Pacific Regional Committee adopted the Regional Action Plan on Healthy Ageing in October 2020, and it aims to support all Member States in the Western Pacific Region to achieve the vision for Healthy Ageing, as outlined in the Regional Action Plan. In this context, there is an opportunity to exchange knowledge and experience eon healthy ageing in the Region between younger countries and more aged countries.
Particularly in Japan, member state in the WPR region, is the most aged country in the world. Following the successful Leadership Course on Healthy Ageing, February 2021, a course in collaboration with the Kanagawa Prefecture, AGE/DSI will continue facilitating exchange of knowledge, experiences, and lessons from Japan. Countries preparing for population ageing could take note of the lessons from Japan in creating an age-friendly society, taking a life-course approach.
To facilitate the knowledge exchangecollaborate with academe and other institutions on events and webinars related to ageing populations in Japan.
PURPOSE/SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE OF THE ACTIVITY
This consultancy work aims to support the Member States in taking action to prepare for the needs of an ageing population. The incumbent will support and foster exchanges of knowledge, experiences and lessons between Japan and other WPR countries. The incumbent will also support, coordinate and organize collaborating events and webinars related to ageing populations partners, academe and stakeholders in Japan.
DESCRIPTION OF ACTIVITIES TO BE CARRIED OUT
Under the direct supervision of the Coordinator, AGE/DSI, the contractor is expected to deliver the following deliverables. Progress, findings, reports and communication materials should be regularly presented to the Healthy Ageing unit.
METHODS TO CARRY OUT THE ACTIVITY
Output 1: Assist in coordination with Member States and other partners, actors for required data / research analysis and production of media or communication materials including logistics
Deliverable 1.1: provide insights and plans for the project requirement
Deliverable 1.2: assist in contracting on production of media materials related to healthy ageing in Japan including logistics (ie., to secure site visits and different areas in Japan for the video recording)
Deliverable 1.3: coordinate and arrange planning and approval of storyboards both with partners and WPRO
Deliverable 1.4: assist in the review of products, in line with technical requirement of AGE projects, and ensure submission of final product outputs
Deliverable 1.5: co-organize collaborative webinars and workshop using the materials listed in output 1
Output 2: Foster knowledge-sharing and collection of evidence from Japan
Deliverable 2.1: coordinate and arrange research institute/s to work on evidence gathering related to ageing population, especially the relationship between nudge, social determinant, and healthy ageing
Deliverable 2.2: submission of technical reports
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
EDUCATION
Essential: University degree in public health, health policy, health economics or related field from a recognized university
Desirable: Advanced degree in public health, health economics and other related field from a recognized university
EXPERIENCE
Essential: Minimum one year of work experience in qualitative/quantitative research and project management. Experience in working with international organizations, including WHO, other UN agencies, relevant NGOs and/or bilateral agencies and the academe is desired
TECHNICAL SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE
LANGUAGES
Fluent in written and spoken English and native Japanese is essential.

Duration of contract: 7 months (15 August 2021 - March 2022)
