The Department of Biomedicines at Aarhus University wishes to purchase a cryo-microtome to section sucrose-embedded biological samples following to so-called Tokuyasu procedure, the best procedure to preserve epitopes in electron microscopy preparations. This machine will serve multiple projects and will allow to prepare cryo-sections that can be immunogold labelled to combine protein localization with ultrastructural resolution in electron microscopy or electron tomography.

With the purchased system, the aim is to cut ultrathin cryo-sections (50-70 nm) for electron microscopy and thin cryo-sections (150-500 nm) for electron tomography at very low temperature, i.e. minus 100-120 and minus 80-100, respectively.

The full list of requirements:

1. Temperature range (possible, controllable working range ) -15°C to -185°C.

2. Autotrim function.

3. Rotating knife holder that can take 2 knives.

4. Individual temperatures setting for specimen, knife and gas temperature.

5. Controlled 4 x LED illuminations system for the specimen illumination.

6. Integrated ionizer.

7. With antistatic device for charge and discharge function, adjustable antistatic electrode to avoid electrostatic charging.

8. Ad hoc antivibration table.

9. Automatic bake-out switch-off function for the cryo-cycle to shut down the machine.

10. Possibility to have an integrated HD digital camera with monitor.

11. Option to adapt in future the cryo-microtome for CEMOVIS.

Following the notification, a standstill period of 10 calendar days will be held in accordance to paragraph 3 of Act No. 593 of 2 June 2016 on the Danish Act on the Complaints Board for public Procurement. This implies that the Contracting Authority cannot sign the Contract with the winning Tenderer before the standstill period has expired.
