Assignment Description   Short Term Consultant Environmental Safeguards Specialist Local Short-Term Consultant Appointment (150 Staff Days per year) Location: Nairobi, Kenya The World Bank Somalia Country Office seeks to hire an experienced and hands-on individual Short-Term Consultant as an Environmental Safeguards Specialist whose primary role is to support the Bank on the environmental risk management for the Kenya portfolio. This position is a 100 staff days position for the initial contract period in Financial Year 2021/2022, renewable for an additional 150 staff days per annum based on performance and future work program. This is a locally recruited staff position based in Nairobi. The Short-Term Consultant will be expected to assist in environmental safeguards-related aspects of the World Bank operations. The Consultant will advise task teams and clients on the World Bank policies relating to the assessment and mitigation of environmental risks and impacts based on environmental safeguards policies and Environmental and Social Framework. This will include aspects relating to stakeholder consultations and institutional development related requirements specific to capacity for identifying and implementing environmental risk and mitigation during preparation and implementation of World Bank operationsthis also includes application of the World Banks Environmental and Social Framework (ESF). Selection Criteria and Electronic Applications: The successful candidate should hold a Masters degree with 8+ years of relevant experience, in Environmental Sciences, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering or related field. S/he should have excellent written and spoken command of English and Swahili and good communication skill. Demonstrated project management / operational skills and familiarity with Bank procedures and business practices including occupational health and safety management and the WBG safeguard policies would be an advantage. Proven teamwork and successful experience working with multi-disciplinary teams.
