Climatic chamber
Low-carbon building demands are expected to increase remarkably in the near future. This trend creates remarkable opportunity for the South Savo region to increase knowhow, specialized R&D and business development based on innovative use of biomaterials in the building sector. The development of wood and hybrid materials in building industry is developing rapidly and this increases the demand for the research and testing facilities. The massive wood and hybrid building environment for physical, climate and energy efficient testing purposes will be implemented in Savonlinna technology park operated by South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences. The facility will be used in university and industrial co-operation in the field of knowhow development and testing of innovative materials structures. As a result, regional smart specialization, technical infrastructures, and competence deepens. Regional actors will strengthen their position in the growing low-carbon building sector. Therefore, the purpose of the acquisition is to obtain a walk-in climatic chamber.
Savonlinna
The goal is to provide wood construction solutions and innovation services that serve companies and solve the most acute challenges in timber construction. The operational goal of the development project 308048 ‘Wood and Hybrid Construction Testing Laboratory’ financed by South Savo Regional Council is to launch the operation of the research laboratory and produce open-source solutions and research information for companies and building clusters.
Research data on the thermal transmission properties of building insulations and various structures are needed for many purposes e.g. design guidelines, compliance with regulations, investigation of material and products performance and for improving the simulation models. Therefore, the purpose of the acquisition is to obtain a walk-in climatic chamber. With the help of the climatic chamber, it should be possible to simulate a wide range of operating temperatures and enable the testing of complete systems under various stationary and dynamic climatic conditions. The chamber should be divided in two modules; two separate temperature and humidity-controlled rooms (indoor and outdoor with stainless steel interior), which will be primarily used for simulation of the building structures and components response to wide range of climatic conditions e.g. windows, façade, wall, floor and roof elements. The dimensions of the materials and structures used in the simulations may also vary according to the dimensions of the product, but acquisition concerns chamber where the materials up to 2400 mm wide, 2400 mm high and 100-800 mm thick could be tested.
The climatic chamber should be equipped with modern control software, allowing to collect the data, manage, monitor and assist the chamber remotely and in multiple ways (Wi-Fi, Ethernet, mobile network).
