Description

AMENDED TO EXTEND SUBMISSION DATELINE TO 12.06.2018

The UNICEF Kenya country office procures more than US$ 25 million worth supplies, equipment and services locally from Kenya market each year for the implementation of its programmes in various parts of the country. Besides the supplies and equipment for its Kenya Country Programme, the office also provides procurement services to neighbouring UNICEF country offices particularly in Somalia, South Sudan, DRC, and some other South East African countries.

Since UNICEF uses competitive bidding as the sourcing approach for goods and services in order to meet specific programme requirements while providing trying to obtain the best value for money, UNICEF does not respond to unsolicited offers for goods and services from suppliers. UNICEF deals with qualified suppliers that must meet financial, technical and in some cases specific sector-wise certification criteria, e.g. ISO 9001 certification, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) certification for pharmaceutical products, etc.

Over the last few years, as a result of programme throughput increase, there was also a significant increase of programmes needs for the local procurement of various supplies and services including print production, and consultancy services contracts. UNICEF Kenya is therefore interested in diversifying its supplier base and in finding new suppliers that can provide quality goods and services at competitive prices.

UNICEF Kenya conducted a market survey and expanded its supplier base in 2015. Since then there has been a significant growth on local market in both sectors supplies and services. The growth in local market has offered new opportunities to UNICEF in terms of quality products and professional services with competitive price and value for money. Therefore, country-wide specific market surveys are strongly recommended to pre-qualify potential suppliers from whom to source strategic supplies and services.
