Promotion of Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (GEWE) through the process of gender mainstreaming is part of the mandate of all UN agencies, funds and programmes. Agencies are required to strengthen efforts to mainstream gender in all programmatic spheres and to strengthen the capabilities of the United Nations system as a whole in the area of gender equality.
