Notification on the Application of South-South Cooperation Renewable Energy Technologies Collection

As the Belt and Road Initiative has received increasing support from the international community, South-South cooperation is playing more and more important role in the progress of global governance. Under the framework of South-South cooperation, technology transfer and cooperation, consistent with the national conditions of developing countries, has become an effective method of addressing climate change and jointly achieving the SDGs.

China-Zambia/Ghana Renewable Energy Technology Transfer (RETT) Cooperation is a 5-year Technology Transfer project which aims to strengthen national capacities to address climate change and promote sustainable development through RETT from China to Zambia and Ghana along with training, capacity building, know-how and best practices. Under the framework of UNDP, China has developed approaches to ensure that technology transfer directly addresses the development needs specific to Zambia and Ghana respectively. It is further used as a launch pad for nurturing and building the capacity of knowledge networks to promote country-driven technology transfer, local renewable energy industry capacity, and private sector development.

In order to support Ghana and Zambia’s objectives of developing a supply-chain strategy, and to set up Chinese stakeholders involved in RE to engage in projects bringing down the cost of technology transfer, China PMU had launch the first round RETs selection in the year of 2016, with an overwhelming response from interested sectors to engage in the RETs’ selection and following the review of strong applications, there were 100 applicable RETs emerged and been included into the South-South Cooperation on Renewable Energy Technology Transfer Technical Manual, which has been presented on The Asia-Pacific Low Carbon Technology Summit (2018) ", COP23 China pavilion and other international conferences, and has aroused the strong concern of both China and foreign countries.

Based on the fruitful achievements of first round RETs selection, the second RETs selection will take the current demand of Southern countries i.e. Zambia and Ghana into account, update applicable RETs provided by Chinese suppliers that are suitable to transfer to Southern countries, summarize these RETs into South-South Cooperation on Renewable Energy Technology Transfer Technical Manual (Second Edition) and strengthen Chinese RETs stakeholder alliance. Requirements and Application method please refer to the Annex below.
