II.1.4)Short description:

United Utilities Water Limited intend to put in place a Framework for Supply & Delivery of Reactive Media for Phosphorus Removal, at various sites across the North West of England. Specifically a low complexity process that does not involve dosing chemical coagulant products.

UU has been looking for alternatives to chemical dosing for Phosphorus removal & has trialled a number of solutions. The solution is required to remove the need to install potable water for chemical make-up & safety equipment associated with chemical dosing, e.g. Safety showers. The requirement may be fulfilled by the use of reactive media.

Additionally the solution must be chemical free, as this also reduces the requirement for frequent chemical deliveries & sludge export tankering from the site.

As the technologies will be used in smaller unmanned locations any solution must have a low maintenance requirement & therefore being passive in nature would be an advantage.
