II.2.4)Description of the procurement:

Procurement of 2 nerve stimulators, with an option for a further 1. This is standard in several types of tumour surgery in the neurosurgery department. The following interventions are carried out on an annual basis:

- Approx. 80 tumour interventions

- Approx. 20 functional

- Approx. 30 spinal/peripheral

Patients who are operated in the brain for cancer or epilepsy often have fibre bundles that govern important functions close to what must be removed. Such fibre bundles cannot be separated from each other by sight, but they can be identified with the help of carefully controlled electrical stimulation. In this way it is possible to identify the fibre routes that go into the brain that control touch, sight, or language. This technology makes neurosurgical interventions more efficient and safer.

We have the following requirements for the instrument:

- The stimulator must be able to run time limited 50/60 Hz stimulations, and run continual low frequency, multi-pulse switching between cortical and sub-cortical, both parts with audio biological confirmation of ongoing, adequate stimulation.

- The stimulator must be able to register muscle activity in a sufficient number of muscles, with an option for audiological warning of such activity.
