One of the key deliverables for the PAN Project (Expanding coverage and strengthening management effectiveness of the protected area network on the island of Mauritius) includes the development of a formalized knowledge management system for recording, exchanging and disseminating information as a key output.
A Knowledge Management Framework (KMF) was developed through a consultative process with PAN ahis framework is currently being translated into a Knowledge Management System (KMS) which will comprise of the following four principal components:
A common filing system (CFS) will be piloted under Components 2 and 4 of the KMS. A common filing system can be defined as: A set of documents that are accessible to all people in the organization with the required level of permission that are useful for day to day operations such as reporting templates, good practice guidelines, terms of reference, etc. The standardization of filing systems should be encouraged and worked upon as part of a process to integrate all document management into a single system linked to a central server.
