River Glen Restoration Project Invitation to Tender
45247100
Works
The River Glen is a high energy, single channel river that tends to switch course across the floodplain during flood events (through process called avulsion). A combination of large flood events, natural dynamic river character, historical modification (e.g. embankments) and reduction in management has resulted in a present day rapidly evolving river and floodplain.
These works will allow the River Glen to naturalise whilst managing the risk to land, property and infrastructure. This will be achieved by dissipating flood energy through flood embankment removal; slowing down the formation of new channels by filling in ditches on the floodplain; and reducing flood risk by setting back embankments, removing a culvert /bridge and replacing with a gravel ford. The latter work will also require lowering of the road.
