Biomass energy contributes over 90% of the total consumable energy needs in Uganda, with firewood and charcoal forming the biggest component. In the recent past, the demand for charcoal has been increasing rapidly at an estimated rate of 6% per annum and this trend is expected to continue. The Uganda Population and Housing Census of 2013 revealed that there was an increase in the number of households using charcoal from 15.2% to 18.5%. This rise is attributed to the high rate of urbanization, rapidly expanding population, as well as the ever increasing cost of using electricity.
Among the key outputs of the project is to enhance awareness about the current challenges facing the charcoal industry in the country and promote the uptake of improved production/management technologies and best practices across the entire charcoal value chain. This partly will require building capacity of journalists to effectively report about the industry. To realize this, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development in partnership with UNDP is seeking the services of an experienced firm who shall be engaged to offer capacity building training for journalists on sustainable charcoal management and reporting.
Objective
The main objective of this process is to enhance awareness among practicing journalists about threats/challenges to the charcoal industry and using the media, promote the adoption of improved charcoal management technologies across the entire value chain. It will support the media fraternity with skills and capacity to conduct sustainable charcoal management journalism and reporting.
UNDP Uganda kindly requests the submission of proposals for "RFP - Training on Sustainable Charcoal Journalism for Media Practitioners and District Information Officers" as per the detailed requirements of this RFP (attached as PDF document). When preparing your proposal, please be guided by the form attached hereto as Annex 1 of which a Microsoft Word copy is attached for you convenience.
Proposals may be submitted on or before 15 June 2017 at 04.00 pm by following the submission instructions detailed in the solicitation document (RFP).
