Responsible business conduct (RBC) is at the nexus of many priorities for Canada such as the respect for human rights, taking action on climate change, inclusive trade, upholding the rights of Indigenous peoples and amplifying its feminist international assistance policy.
RBC entails compliance with laws, but also involves the respect of voluntary and international guiding principles. Canada encourages the adoption of voluntary best practices and internationally respected guidelines such as the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises (the “Guidelines”) and the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.
The Canadian National Contact Point (NCP) is lodged within the Department of Foreign Affairs Trade and Development (DFATD) and requires a service provider to develop activities, tools, policy papers and research to strengthen Canada’s NCP and the global NCP network and support Canada’s Responsible Business Conduct (RBC) strategy. The contractor is to provide Midyear reports by September 30th of each year, and Final reports for each Canadian funded activity or project by March 31st of each year.
